The Shoah Songbook: Uncovering Music of Remembrance, with Likht Ensemble

CFY Presents an Online Musical Journey

with Likht Ensemble's Jaclyn Grossman and Nate Ben-Horin

The Shoah Songbook: Uncovering Music of Remembrance

Recorded live on Zoom, Sunday, January 14, 2024

In this exciting online talk, Jaclyn Grossman and Nate Ben-Horin share with us their path of discovering, researching, and performing Holocaust music. Together they perform as the Likht (ליכט meaning "light") Ensemble, a piano-vocal duo whose goal is to uncover and disseminate music by Jewish composers from the Holocaust. Their program highlights the various types of Yiddish music they have explored thus far, as well as several newly discovered pieces from their recent research trip to the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington.

Jaclyn Grossman (soprano) and Nate Ben-Horin (pianist/composer) are the founding members of Licht Ensemble. As Jewish artists, they have been reclaiming Jewish history from a new perspective, while ensuring that voices long silenced are heard. Their work includes performing Holocaust music, presenting lecture recitals about specific composers and ghettos, and educating about the antisemitism in classical music and opera.
